4 Days/ 3 Nights Masai Mara Game Reserve Safari is a vacation that spends 3 full days exploring the Masai Mara Game Reserve which lies 275 Kilometers west of Nairobi. The Masai Mara, which is the most popular reserve in Africa and best known in the world, lies in the Great Rift Valley and covers an area of 700 square-miles.
It has a magic that keeps bringing back safari travelers, time and again! The reserve was established in 1961. It’s an extension of Serengeti National Park of Tanzania and share the same ecosystem. The great migration from Masai Mara to Serengeti National Park was voted the 7th wonder of the world.
Masai Mara Game Reserve has a combination of specialties that make it an all time favorite safari destination. Perhaps it is because of the ‘big skies’, the open savannahs, the romance of films like ‘Out of Africa’ and certainly because of the annual wildebeest migration, the density of game, the variety of bird life and the chance of a hot air balloon ride.
Also because of the tall red-robed Masai people whose lifestyle is completely at odds with western practices, and from whom one learns to question certain western values.
Our 4 Days/ 3 Nights Masai Mara National Reserve Safari explores all the four types of topography in the Mara:
Ngama Hills to the east with sandy soil and leafy bushes liked by black rhino
Oloololo Escarpment forming the western boundary and rising to a magnificent plateau
Mara Triangle bordering the Mara River with lush grassland and acacia woodlands supporting masses of game especially migrating wildebeest
Central Plains forming the largest part of the reserve, with scattered bushes and boulders on rolling grasslands favored by the plains game
Depending on the season, the Mara plains are home to astounding abundance of wildlife like the wildebeests, zebras, buffaloes, impalas, topis, giraffes, Thomson ’s gazelle, cheetahs, serval cats, hyenas, warthogs, jackals, waterbucks, monkeys, baboons.
Masai Mara Game Reserve is the Park with the largest number of lion sightings. If you are lucky, you get the opportunity to see the rare shy black rhino at a distance. The vast plains are also home to the Masai people with their big herds of cattle and their rich unique culture.
